
Whitney L. Willits
Partner
Whitney is a partner with Black McCuskey and focuses her practice in the areas of litigation, labor & employment, intellectual property and oil & gas. In her litigation practice, Whitney handles a variety of civil issues, ranging from breach-of-contract disputes to patent and trademark infringement claims. She counsels clients through all stages of litigation and has represented clients in state and federal courts across Ohio, as well as through pro hac vice admission in the federal courts in New York, New Jersey, and Delaware. Whitney also advises clients on labor-and-employment matters, both in litigation and in drafting employee handbook provisions.
A cum laude graduate of The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, Whitney served as a Managing Editor for The Ohio State Law Journal and was actively involved in the Moot Court Program, competing on the ABA Grey Team and the Corporations Team, as well as serving as the Executive Justice of Appellate Advocacy. Over the summer of 2010, Whitney studied comparative corporate law at the University of Oxford in England. Prior to earning her Juris Doctor degree, Whitney studied at Capital University in Bexley, Ohio, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and minors in mathematics, history, and political science.
Whitney has been named a Rising Star for 2015 through 2023 by Ohio Super Lawyers magazine. No more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state are selected and candidates must be either 40 years or younger, or in practice ten years or less. In 2016, she was selected as one of 20 outstanding leaders under the age of 40 by ystark! (the young professionals organization of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce) and The Repository.
Whitney is a Canton native, graduating salutatorian from Perry High School. She is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Stark County Bar Association, where she serves on the Young Lawyers Committee, the Grievance Committee and the Municipal Court Committee. Whitney is also actively involved in ystark!, which she chaired in 2018. She currently serves on the Board for Leadership Stark County, and is a graduate of the 29th Signature Class.
