Black McCuskey continues to invest in a “summer associate” program. The firm is committed to finding the best and brightest law school students to provide them with the opportunity to practice what they have learned. The program provides future lawyers with the opportunity to experience working in a law firm while completing their last year of law school.

The firm is excited to have law school student, Spencer Sandberg, participating in the summer associate program this year. He is currently attending The University of Akron School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in legal studies from Davenport University of Michigan.

Typically, an extensive interview process is conducted a year in advance. Based on those interviews, one or two students are selected to work during the following summer. They learn a great deal in their 12 weeks at the firm and the attorneys learn a few things from them as well. Looking at history, the summer associate program has been very successful in developing many of the firm’s current attorneys: Jim Wherley, Ryan Kuchmaner, Whitney Willits, Rod Moore, and Holly Baer are all past interns. Managing Partner, Brian R. Mertes comments, “We strive to provide a well-rounded experience for our summer associates. It is the right mix of legal work and social activities that make our program work so well.”
