Black McCuskey continues to invest in a “summer associate” program.  The firm is committed to finding the best and the brightest law school students to provide them with the opportunity to practice what they have learned in law school.  The program provides future lawyers with the opportunity to experience working in a law firm while completing their last year of law school.

The firm is excited to have law school student, Jose Nunez, participating in the summer associate program this year.  He is currently attending The University of Akron School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania.

Typically, an extensive interview process is conducted almost a year in advance.  Based on those interviews, one or two students are selected to work during the following summer.  They learn a great deal in their 12 weeks at the firm and the attorneys learn a few things from them as well.  Looking at history, the summer associate program has been very successful in developing many of the firm’s current attorneys: Jim Wherley, Ryan Kuchmaner, Whitney Willits, Rod Moore, and Holly Baer are all past interns.  Managing Partner, Brian R. Mertes comments, “While some of the things we do in our summer program mirror the structure of other law firms, I think it is the differences that make our program work so well.  We really strive to provide a fulfilling summer experience and a welcoming environment.”
