Taxation

Firm attorneys work closely with CPAs, accountants and other preparers of clients' tax returns, in properly reporting and supporting client tax positions during audits or other administrative reviews. When efforts to resolve disputed federal tax treatment cannot be concluded through the Internal Revenue Service, we represent our clients before the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Court of Claims, and U.S. District Courts and Courts of Appeals.
In conjunction with our tax practice, Black McCuskey attorneys also have developed considerable expertise in the highly regulated field of employee benefits, including deferred compensation, retirement and welfare (medical and disability) benefit plans. We work with our clients in analyzing the potential costs and tax and non-tax benefits of such plans, draft the appropriate documents to implement the plans and assist clients in the various qualification, disclosure and fiduciary requirements imposed upon plan sponsors. We also assist clients regarding interpretations of benefit plan provisions and represent parties in related litigation.
By integrating tax practitioners into the business, corporate, estate planning and administration and employee benefit areas, Black McCuskey can provide effective counsel and assistance to clients in meeting the challenges and in exploiting the opportunities presented by a wide range of taxation issues at all levels of government.
