Dan Jonas has practiced law in Stark County for more than 40 years. His concentration is in management-labor relations, personnel management, equal employment opportunity, discrimination, wrongful discharge matters, policy and practice development, disciplinary/termination issues and related counseling, negotiations, arbitrations, administrative proceedings and litigation. A broad range of clients, from major corporations to smaller businesses, have benefited from his labor and employment counseling.
Dan also devotes a substantial portion of his practice to business, commercial and education law matters. Dan came to Black McCuskey in 1968 after completing studies at Case Western Reserve University, where he earned his law and undergraduate degrees. At Case Western Reserve he was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa honorary societies. Dan is a member of the Ohio State and Stark County Bar Associations and has taken the lead in various bar association activities, particularly in the labor and employment areas. For many years, Dan was Chairman of the Labor and Employment Law Committee of the Stark County Bar Association.
He has been Chairman of the Civil Rights Committee, and is an emeritus member of the Board of Governors, of the Labor and Employment Section of the Ohio State Bar Association. Dan also has served on the Regional Labor Advisory Council of the American Arbitration Association. From 1996 through 1997, Dan served on the Editorial Review Board of the Ohio Labor Letter. He is a frequent lecturer on labor and employment topics and is the author of articles and publications in his areas of specialization. Dan is recognized by his peers as one of the preeminent lawyers in his field, having received an AV® Peer-Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell*, and was recognized as an Ohio Super Lawyer in 2007 and 2008.
Involved in numerous civic endeavors, Dan is a member and trustee of Canton Rotary Club, and has served as President, Vice President and board member of such organizations as Canton Jaycees, Goodwill Industries and Rehabilitation Clinic, the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Stark County, Pyramid Career Services, the Canton Symphony Orchestra and the Canton Urban League.
